What is a Living Will?

What is a Living Will?

If you are contemplating wills, you will know that a last will and testament provides peace of mind since your wishes will be carried out following your passing. But prior to you passing away, a living will can detail what you want to occur if the time comes that you are still alive but cannot communicate because of serious medical circumstances.

Let’s take a closer look at a living will—determining if it’s right for you and how it differs from a regular will, an advance directive and a medical power of attorney.

What Is a Living Will?

A living will is legal documentation that lets others know what your personal decisions are concerning end of life medical care. It establishes the medications or procedures you want, or don’t want; to prolong your life if you are unable to speak to the doctors yourself. This might be because you are under anesthesia for a planned surgery and had complications or are incapacitated from a serious accident or other type of occurrence.
